Daniel Silver - Surface Mag April 2012
Next up was a trip to Dalston to shoot Daniel Silver at his studio. His studio space was great to work in, with excellent daylight and lots of room. Daniel was finishing work on a series of pieces for an exhibition, as I set up he was applying some finishing touches.

Iain Hales for Surface Mag
My first commission for 2012 was to shoot the sculptor Iain Hales for the Surface Magazine Art Feature. I shot a couple of different portraits around his studio, and then photographed some of Iains work.

I shot Martin Brudnizki, the man behind a lot of the interior design at the Soho House chain, near to his studio in Fulham. I also shot the featured locations. This wasn’t too arduous, as it involved the Timothy Taylor Gallery and Unto This Last - a furniture fabricator near Brick Lane.
Gerhard Richter @ Tate Modern
Went to take a look at the Richter show at the Tate yesterday, it’s phenomenal!
Pictures loaded with a sense of foreboding. Images reproduced from the media, become brooding comments on the consumerism he was exposed to in Western Germany. The pictures deal with germany history and anything else that comes into view.
One picture Uncle Rudi, 1965 shows an uncle, decked out in full Wehrmacht Uniform, stood before a concrete wall. A reference to the construction of the Berlin Wall, or a firing squad?
A pair of pictures I particularly liked were, Townscape Paris, 1968 & Townscape SL 1969. The image on the left shows Paris under construction, the image to the right shows a German town where new modern housing is being built. It reveals an interesting difference in the way societies were dealing with the legacy of the war. One reconstructing the past, the other trying to forget and creating a brighter future.
All in all, well worth a visit. It closes 8th Jan 2012.
Surface Mag Feature
My first feature for Surface Magazine in New York is in the December issue. I shot the designer Philippe Malouin at his studio, where he was working on a series of new pieces for NextLevelGallery, Paris.

Interesting chat today with Sam at The Barber of Seville in Brixton. He put me onto Holy Ghost Zine who are producing a great limited edition magazine available to buy online. Work for consideration can be submitted by email.
